Holy Apostles' C of E Primary School

Learn Well; Live Well!

Holy Apostles' PTA

Welcome to the Holy Apostles` Primary School PTA pages. We hope that you find the information below both interesting and helpful. Equally, if you feel there is anything more that you'd like to see included, please do let us know.

All parents of children at the school are automatically members of the PTA. However, each Autumn term, we hold an AGM (to which everyone is welcome!), to formally elect a committee. The committee`s role is to organise the various fundraising events and initiatives and agree, along with the Head-teacher/school, how to make best use of the funds raised. We usually meet once a term, although, inevitably, when big events such as the fairs are approaching, there are a few extra meetings, and don`t worry, we`ll give you advance notice of when the next meeting is (see “How We Communicate With You”), so you can plan ahead.

The current committee members are:

 Name & Role:

Ruth Bull - Co-Chair

Lee Staley - member (HT)

Helen Robinson- Co- Chair

Dan Smith - member (Deputy HT)

Megan Day - Treasurer

Ruth Riegler - member (teacher)

Becky Webb - member

Stephen Fallon - member

Tim Henderson - member

Jo Townsend - member

Jane Manning - member

The PTA organise and promote a wide range of fun events and fundraising initiatives during the school year, that help to raise significant funds (an amazing £10k net p/a) to support the school with a variety of “extras” that aren’t provided by their main income. These include improvements to the children`s learning experiences as well as their environment, not to mention being fun events that the children really look forward to each and every year.

Examples of these “extras” that have been paid for by the PTA include: 15 iPads and covers (£4.3k), musical instruments and stands (£583.33), ice creams at the annual Christmas panto, school trips and transportation, Year 6 leavers` gifts, the spiritual garden (£3.6k), benches and trees for the playground (£2.5k), the outdoor mural (£1k), Improvements to the library (£6k) and the indoor ceramic tree - 2017 (£1.5k).

HOW CAN YOU HELP? The events the PTA organise could not go ahead without the fantastic help of those parents that offer their time, this is particularly important when it comes to the bigger events such as the fairs. However, inevitably, some of those lovely helpers move on each year as their children leave the school each summer, so new volunteers are always welcome – just catch us in the playground, leave a message with the office or on our Facebook page (see below). Many hands make light work, as the saying goes! So how about helping out with a few friends from your class?Aside from buying cakes and ice creams, and supporting our fun events, some other really easy ways in which you can help include:

  • Easy Fundraising – visit easyfundraising.com and support Holy Apostles’ Primary School, Charlton Kings. This site lets you access over 2,700 well known retailers online (e.g. M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Expedia, Tesco etc.) and, whilst you shop, you`ll also earn money for the school at no cost to you.
  • Bag2School – when you’re having a clear out of your wardrobes, don`t throw out any old clothes, accessories or shoes. Just hold onto them until our next Bag2School collection (details on Facebook page). We get paid for all donations, and raise an average £400 each school year.
  • easy2name (school labels) – need new labels? If you order via www.easy2name.com (or by post or phone – the PTA has forms, if required) and select Holy Apostles’ C of E Primary School as the fundraising group, they will pay 20% commission to the PTA.
  • Selling items on the PTA`s Facebook Buy and Sell page (see below) – you can use this group to sell items, on the basis that a small donation is made to the PTA. This can be handed in at the office, just be clear that it`s for the PTA’s box.
  • Other ways you can help, that you might not have thought about – help out at the school disco/movie nights, design/print posters and advertising material, setting up at the fairs and/or clearing away, running the BBQ/a cake stall, come up with new money making ideas for stalls at the fair and help to set them up, volunteer to do a stint on a stall when your class rep asks for helpers, or acting as PTA official photographer! We could go on, but we hope you get the idea that any help whatsoever is a huge help, so what are you waiting for?

Aside from this school website, the PTA keeps in touch, primarily, through a newsletter, once a term, on our cheerful yellow paper! But are you aware that there`s also a PTA Group Facebook page? If you haven’t yet joined the group and are interested in seeing what`s on there, just click on this link and stay up to date with all things school related https://www.facebook.com/groups/280873411933010/

The Buy and Sell link (see above) is as follows https://www.facebook.com/groups/1489476217932534/

The school office will also send out text alert reminders for things such as Bag2School, cake sales and ice creams etc. So be sure to update them if your mobile number changes.
